Spotlight on Southern Spain 2024

  • Spotlight on Southern Spain: A trip with my fellow top ten Virtuoso advisors from GTN and our preferred on-site partner showcases how relationships and expertise create the unique and extraordinary experiences we all seek when traveling.
  • Envision a personal visit with the granddaughter of the “Spanish Schindler” at her home and lunch with a Marquise at her castle, a location that was featured in Game of Thrones. These are just a couple of the unique experiences our partner in Spain has arranged through their exclusive connections.

Adela is the granddaughter of Angel Sanz Briz, a Spanish diplomat who earned the title “Angel of Budapest” for his bravery during World War II.

One of the most poignant moments of the trip was an intimate visit to the home of Adela Briz in Seville, accompanied by her daughter and the family dog. Adela is the granddaughter of Angel Sanz Briz, a Spanish diplomat who earned the title “Angel of Budapest” for his bravery during World War II. In 1944, Sanz Briz saved over 5,000 Hungarian Jews from deportation to Auschwitz, earning him the nickname “Spanish Schindler,” and while his story is not as widely known, it is no less extraordinary.

Adela presented us with a treasured collection of letters from the descendants of those her grandfather saved, filled with gratitude and stories of hope. As we sipped local wine, Adela’s passion for preserving and sharing her grandfather’s legacy was palpable. She captivated us with tales of her family’s past, giving us a deeply personal and moving experience.

the Castle of Almodóvar del Río with its owner-in-residence, Marquise Eva Morejon.

Another highlight of our journey was a private lunch at the Castle of Almodóvar del Río with its owner-in-residence, Marquise Eva Morejon. This medieval fortress, perched on a hilltop overlooking the Guadalquivir River, has a rich history dating back to the 8th century. The castle gained fame as a filming location for *Game of Thrones*, where it served as the imposing fortress of Highgarden. Sitting down to a prim lunch with the Marquise in her private residence, surrounded by the castle’s ancient walls, offered us a fascinating glimpse into the life of Spanish nobility.

Andalusian Horse Show – Jerez de la Frontera

We also visited Jerez de la Frontera, where we enjoyed an Andalusian Horse Show and a Sherry Wine Experience. This included an artistic indoor horse display and time spent relaxing at a sherry winery while enjoying a tapas lunch. The region is renowned for its equestrian traditions and sherry production, a perfect blend of cultural immersion and local flavor.
